Be the Change You Wish to See in Others

The reminder that "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" from Mahatma Gandhi is my favorite inspirational quote. It's a great reminder that we all need to take personal responsibility for making sure that we are doing our part to make our society (be that global, local community, or family unit) into a positive, healthy environment for ourselves and the others around us.
Instead of complaining about what others do that we don't like, we should be actively setting an example that others will desire to emulate. Everyone is a leader, whether it's in a public setting, or even (especially!) if it's "just" at home with small children. Those small children will grow up to be the society of tomorrow!
Are you leading people to follow a higher standard, or are you allowing everyone around you to settle for the lowest commonly accepted denominator of behavior?
