Self improvement advice, articles, tips and strategies

Self improvement advice

One of the biggest challenges is to believe the self improvement advice someone else has written on a website.

How can that person have any idea about my problem?

Who made them an authority on the subject?

Why should I listen to them?

For me, that has slowly changed. Two very short stories from my life will help to explain how.

... only a moving ship
can be steered ...

OVERCOMING CAFFEINE ADDICTION

I used to be addicted to caffeine. I would sometimes drink more than 10 cups a day! I had read some articles about its affects on our bodies and figured that most of it did not apply to me. Besides, aren't we all bullet-proof?

Well, after years of restless nights and riding the highs and lows of the caffeine tide, I decided that is was time to try something.

I surfed a few sites and found some that had similar stories. I tried some of the advice and ... Woohoo! I am over caffeine and I have not felt this good for a long time.

OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

I spent years thinking about how I could write a book that would help others with life’s little problems. I read many books and online articles about it. I told people that I was going to do it. I just never got around to it because it was mostly "talk" and it was easier to talk about it than actually do it.

I then read about how the Internet is fast becoming the essential reference tool for the modern age. I work with computers every day so I thought that I might be able to work on this project and enjoy it at the same time. I made a move and started researching how to publish online.

The natural result was to put all my ideas into a website.

Total Self Improvement is the end result.

What changed my mind about believing online self improvement advice? I read somewhere that only a moving ship can be steered. So I decided to take small steps and put some advice into action. I had to develop some self discipline along the way.

... I hold the power to make my own decisions and
chose my next actions ...

How did I choose the “right” self improvement advice?

When you search the web for advice on anything you will find lots of junk. Over time I made some simple rules for filtering out the junk. These rules are listed below. To be of some value, advice or stories had to pass most of these checks:

  • The author seems genuinely interested in my welfare
  • It has a positive effect on self worth and building self esteem
  • I was not insulted by any negativity or sarcasm
  • I could read the article without feeling like I was being trapped or pressured into doing or buying something – I hold the power to make my own decisions and chose my next actions
  • The website was not just a big sales pitch, although I did end up buying some resources based on recommendations from people I learned to trust
  • No banner ads and other gimmicks on the home page

That’s it. If stories I read online passed most of these checks I would take them seriously.

That is the basis of Total Self Improvement.

It is packed with self improvement advice, stories, tips and strategies on a whole range of topics that are written to not only pass each of the above checks, but to be offer genuine help and suggestions to people seeking an improved life.
